DANCE ME IN, provides adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities accessibility to ballroom dance instruction. The goals are not only to provide the basics of partner dancing, but to also exercise bodies and minds, and expand their social skills through friendships with volunteer dance partners and other students.
The vision of DANCE ME IN, is to tailor a special needs program while retaining the structure of typical ballroom group classes, transforming lives through the power of dance.
Program will include 42 weekly classes divided into 6 week increments teaching 6 different dance styles, 10 monthly social dances, and a choreographed dance production performed at the project conclusion in June.
At each class there is a certified dance instructor, and a one to one ratio of student to volunteer dance partners for 15 - 20 participants. Social dances will be open and inclusive to all providing true community involvement. Staff accompanying students can participate as dance partners.
